Charles Victor Roddan Anderson

Listed at 183cm, Anderson, recruited from Gippsland club Rosedale, played in their premiership of 1924. He would play his one & only game for Carlton in Season 1924. It was a historic day in its own right as both Carlton and Fitzroy would crack the 100 point barrier, representing the first time this would occur in competition history.

"Charlie Anderson who has been showing such fine form on the wing in practice games at Carlton, and who is now attached to the staff of the Collingwood Technical School, was, at the Wednesday's night meeting of the Victorian Football League, granted a permit to play with Carlton. May success attend him!"
(Traralgon Record 18 April 1924 p3)

"Charlie Anderson was the only new recruit in the Carlton team last week, and though beaten in the centre by Corrigan, an old and experienced player, gave promise of developing into a useful man."
"The Rosedale Club are endeavoring to secure Charlie Anderson for their opening match against Sale."
(Traralgon Record 02 May 1924 p3)

In the years after, Anderson would also line up for South Melbourne, Richmond and Footscray.

Charlie Anderson lined up for South Melbourne against Carlton on August 01 1925.
" ... a word of praise for the brilliant game played by Charlie Anderson. The ex Carlton lad was apparently determined to show the selectors at Carlton their mistake at dropping him from the training list, and that he succeeded is beyond question.
This young player never failed when the ball came his way, and he was always on the alert for a pass to advantage. His left foot kicks covered great distances. Although opposed to a clever performer in Leitch, he more than held his own."
(Trove: Record Emerald Hill August 08 p2)

Anderson played 1 game for Carlton (1924), South Melbourne (1925-26) 11 games (2 goals), Richmond (1926) 3 games, Footscray (1927) 1 game. Total 16 games, 2 goals.

Charlie passed away 31 January 1985 aged 81 at Prahran Vic..
