Julius Petherick is listed in Mark Pennings' Vol. 5 (Players and Clubs p54) but no senior games have been found.
The match on June 30 1877 is closest we have found, he was named in the senior squad of 25 to play Williamstown.
Son of Peter John, and Ann (nee Press) Petherick from Burnham-on-Sea Somerset who sailed from Bristol with five children under the age of 8 and arrived in Melbourne March 1853. Julius was the eighth child of 10.
From 1854 the family were in the Collingwood area. The family owned and occupied the Studley Arms Hotel 252 Wellington Street Collingwood from 1861. The pub stood on the north-east corner of Little Bedford Street, The hotel was built during 1850/1, delicensed in 1908 and demolished around 1968. In 1852 the hotel had been extended to accommodate the influx of gold seeking immigrants. Meetings were held in the hotel including political, rate payers and council meetings.

According to The Footballer 1876 (p27) J. Petherick was captain of the Comet, formed in 1875, their colours were scarlett and white stripes and played in Royal Park.

Julius was a watchmaker/jeweller and had a shop in Kooringa, Burra.
Kooringa was a company owned mining town, it is now known as Burra South.
The Chronicle Adelaide, January 09 1915 p14, in a Letter to the Editor about unclaimed money, lists a Jessie Mabel Petherick, daughter of Julius Evan Petherick, last heard of at Snake Island W.A.

Jessie Mabel Petherick was born 7 May 1885 Kooringa SA. Father Julius Evan Petherick, mother Thirza Petherick (Lines, remarried).
Jessie Lines (Petherick) married George Worth and had a son Harold George, born 14 April 1906. He was in the RAAF during WW2 Service No.16117 and later discharged.
Jessie died aged 90 in Shenton Park, Perth, 16 January 1976

Picnic sports and entertainment took place at Hallet at the Mount Byron Estate. (32km from Burra, the towns were connected by train in 1878)
The principal race of the day was the Hallet Handicap of 150, 250 and 440 yards. It was won by Petherick of Burra off scratch, he had no trouble in winning the 150 and 250 events.
He therefore did not have to run the 440 as he had gained enough points to win the overall event. His prize was £5/5s. Julius also donated a silver brooch and earings as first prize in the Girls Race event.

First, John Danks & Son hardware was Carlton champion Harry Guy's life long employer where he rose from office boy to head Danks' Sydney operations.
The site is probably where McEwans hardware store later stood.
Second, directly across the road is E. A. Petherick booksellers (with the Melbourne G.P.O. clock tower on left and an on-coming cable tram).
E. A. Petherick also had stores in Adelaide and Sydney.
Edward Augustus Petherick founder of the book store was the older brother of Carlton's Julius Evan Petherick..
It seems that there were no parking problems 120 years ago.
