Game Review

Carlton started season 1925 with a disastrous loss to South Melbourne, going down by 38 points. The Blues were led by new captain Maurie Beasy, but it would be only a matter of days before he resigned his position.

A new rule was introduced from Round 1. A free kick is paid when the ball is kicked out of bounds. Most people approved, despite some sceptics, it opened up the play, reduced the packs around the boundary line, and made the movement of the ball quicker.

Debutant Harold Rumney scored Carlton's first goal very early in the game.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 11th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 44.1.
