Game Review

After consecutive wins in Round 12 and Round 13, the Blues made it 3 in a row with this 14 point win against the mid-tabled Gorillas.

With the win, Carlton rose to 7th with a percentage of 93.6. We were however 2 games off 6th place.

Fitzroy played into Carlton's hands by repeatedly kicking the ball long and high into their forward line where the Blues' big men either took the mark or punched the ball away. Carlton on the other hand kept the ball low, fast, and hard. Across the centre the Carlton duo of John Chick and Laurie Kerr dominated and provided many attacking moves. Ken Hands played a true captain's game and was always there when needed. He was an inspiration for his side. The Maroons got on top for 20 minutes during the last quarter and looked very dangerous, but the Blues' backline held firm with John James and full back George Ferry the better players.

Carlton coach Perc Bentley

"I thought one of the chief factors in our win was Ken Hands' ability to hold the side together and get co-operation all round the ground. I thought we scouted together better, played collectively and showed a lot more purpose than Fitzroy. Another big factor was our improved disposal. Fitzroy fought back well but I liked the way our chaps steadied and held them out."
