Game Review

A close match that ended with Geelong's high-flying Paul Jeffrey(s) marking on the siren at least 70 meters out at the Heatley stand end. He was a pretty long kick but even he could not manage such a long distance.

Carlton's Rod Ashman has shot to the lead in the voting for Inside Football's Player of the Year. Ashman has now polled votes in the opening two rounds, with round 2 being adjudged as best on ground. In a display of classy scouting, Ashman frequently created attacking opportunities and excelled around the packs. Rod Ashman is now the outright leader and is the only player so far to poll votes in both rounds. Rod Ashman capped off his fine performance on Monday with a handy three goals and looks set for a great season. He was ablely supported by the ever reliable Bruce Doull who constantly repelled Geelong attacks throughout the course of the game whilst setting up attacking moves for the Blues. - Inside Football Player of the Year.''

''Croweaters' are back in town
Carlton has two fine South Australian players in their line-up - half back Robbert Klomp and winger Phil Maylin. Klomp who made his League debut last season has developed into one of the best and most dependable defenders in the game. His game against the Cats was outstanding as he stood tall in a tough battle that saw the Blues get home by less than a kick. Maylin made his VFL debut in the Blues' opening round clash against Collingwood and acquitted himself extremely well, and again in Monday's match against Geelong. He provided plenty of run from the wing / midfield areas and helped Carlton win this thrilling encounter with the Cats. He appears set for a fine League career. - Tony Greenberg Inside Football''
