Game Review

After Ian Stewart could no longer coach Carlton due to ill health, Serge Silvagni would step in as caretaker Senior Coach from this round and would also coach the Blues in Rounds 5 and 6, before Alex Jesaulenko could take the reins as the new Coach.

Essendon gained the upper hand late in the third quarter, and then ran away with the game in the last quarter. Carlton took the initiative early and played very well, not allowing the enthusiastic Bombers to get into the game - but it was short lived. The Bombers final tally was their best at VFL Park. - Football Record.
