Game Review

Much like our win in the debut Carlton v Hawthorn fixture, Carlton defeated the Shinboners in our first ever match up in this game in 1925. The win would catapult the Blues to 9th, with 3 wins from 9 games, plus boost the percentage that little bit.

At the end of this round Carlton were in 9th spot on the ladder with a percentage of 77.4.

Milestones

Debut: Jack Cahill
Records: This was the first meeting between these two Clubs
Footnote: Although this was the first meeting between these two clubs in the V.F.L. their rivalry harkens right back to a much earlier time. Carlton first played North Melbourne or Hotham as they were once known, in the 1873. Ill feeling existed between the two clubs, and the Blues refused to play their Northern neighbours for two and half seasons until 1881. The following year 1882 after the Coulthard - Tankard affair this rivalry bordered on hatred. (See Pre VFL)

The two teams had met 38 times, Carlton winning 24, losing 7 and drawing 7.
