Will White became the second player to be promoted from the Club’s VFL program within a week, joining Francis Evans who was signed last Thursday Placing third in last year’s VFL Best and Fairest, White was a reliable mainstay for the Reserves, being one of only two players to play every game last season. With a composure and accuracy in front of goal which is set to add to the Blues’ forward mix, the 20-year-old booted 21 goals in his debut season at VFL level, the second most in the Blues’ Reserves team. Ultimately earning the Club’s Best Young Player award, White - who kicked three majors on separate occasions - also showcased his versatility, starting the year as a small forward with an eye for goal but also displaying that he was capable of making an impact higher up the ground. Head of List Management Nick Austin said White is a promising young talent with a lot to offer. “We are pleased to be able to offer Will his chance at AFL level. He has come from our VFL program, which Luke Power and the coaches have done an exceptional job at leading, so he is familiar with our environment and has all the traits to thrive in it,” Austin said. “Will is a quick player and can shut down opponents on the run and is always happy to put in the repeat efforts to help his team. “On the field Will is full of life: he is always bursting with energy, and that's exactly how he is off the field as well. “It is a unique circumstance in which Will has earned an opportunity but it is one we are looking forward to giving him every chance of taking with both hands.” White will wear the No.38 jumper: the same number he wore at South Warrnambool.
Original clubs; Carlton (VFL), GWS Rebels / South Warrnambool.
