Michael Jennings played reserve grade football for Carlton between 1981 and 1982. He also played a season of U19's football for the Blues in 1981, Jennings was a danger to the opposition around goals.

After departing the Blues Mick Jennings would play with University Blues in the VAFA as a gun small, in 1985 he would transfer to Port Melbourne in the VFA. In 1987 whilst playing at Port Melbourne he would have an outstanding year winning the club Best and Fairest, was runner in the VFA Best and Fairest the JJ Liston Trophy and play in the losing Grand Final for Port Melbourne.

Michael Jennings would travel west to play with Subiaco in the WAFL for the 1988 and 1989 seasons. In the 1988 season he would play 22 games and kick 17 goals and in 1989 he played 11 games and kick 11 goals. Jennings would play in Subiaco's premiership win over Claremont in the 1988 season as well as kick a goal in the Grand Final.

Jennings was originally recruited from St Mary's to play with the Blues.

He did not manage a Senior game for Carlton.
