Game Review
This bruising encounter was close all day, but Carlton managed to pull out a 13-point lead with only 10 minutes to go. However, rather than closing the game down by adopting defensive tactics, the Blues kept attacking - which allowed Richmond to get back in the contest. The scores were level near full-time, before Richmond's Jack Titus (who had kicked 6 goals against us in the 1928 Semi Final) snapped a clever goal just before the final siren to win the game for the Tigers.Richmond would go on to be beaten by Collingwood on the Grand Final, giving the Magpies their third straight Premiership. They would win again in 1930, becoming the only side in VFL history to win four consecutive flags.
Carlton's tough little rover Tommy Downs was suspended for a draconian 19 matches after being found guilty of striking Tiger Don Harris. Harris was found not guilty of elbowing Tommy, but reprimanded for "rushing" him. Obviously, they didn't like each other.
