Game Review

Carlton's woes continued with a loss to the 5th placed Footscray.

Colin Holt's debut proved less than auspicious as he met the tribunal's displeasure to the tune of 8 weeks. Harry Caspar, in his last game, was also reported and suspended for 4 weeks.

The Blues welcomed back Hands, Zeunert, O'Brien, Crowe and newcomer Holt. Donaldson was not available, Mills was injured, with Beasy, Ellis, and Brown omitted.

The absence of Jack Mills spoilt much of Bill Milroy's good work in the ruck. Carlton were beaten across the centre and lost much of it's drive. Ken Hands was not 100% and was beaten by Footscray's Peter Box who was best on the ground. The forward line was outpointed by the Dog's strong defence.

"Carlton appears to have left the predictable stage and relegated itself to one of the 'easy-beat-teams' in the League."

Carlton coach Perc Bentley

"Although we were beaten, the team showed more devil and determination in it's play. Footscray's backmen were too strong for our forwards. Our ruckmen did a good job, but were hampered by the absence of rover Jack Mills. Our rovers were inexperienced, and Footscray took advantage of it."
