Game Review
The Blues got off to a good start with precision play and looked the better side. It's rucks won all day, but the Melbourne rovers sharked the hit outs. The Demons made the most of their opportunities and got out to a match winning lead of 21 points at three quarter time. Carlton not to be out done slammed on three goals in less than 10 minutes. The crowd was screaming as the Blues reduced the lead to just 3 points."Then came Carlton's bad luck. Don Nicholls and Graham Donaldson collided. And while they were on the ground Melbourne broke away for the brilliant Spencer to get fifth goal. Vin English, with teeth set, kept Melbourne out for a time, but Peter Marquis came through for another goal, and that was the finish."
Carlton coach Jim Francis
"We lost the game around the packs, and Melbourne rovers were able to break away consistently. I was happy with our general play. Out half-back line won handsomely, and our centre line did well. Melbourne had more than it's share of the breaks ........ with a more equal issue of those breaks we might have seen a different result."Best; Zeunert, James, Comben, Webster, English, Beasy.
Scorers; Ousley 3.2, Hamilton 3.0, Kerr 2.0, Clarke 2.1, Sullivan 1.1, Hands 1.1, Beasy 0.2.
