Game Review
The Blues would be without Silvagni, who failed to recover in time from his concussion in Round 13 for this clash against the top of the ladder Bulldogs. They would welcome back Spalding and Brad Pearce, who would kick the first 2 goals of the match and get the Blues off to a 5 point lead at quarter time. But the Bulldogs began to dominate the second quarter and only inaccuracy kept Carlton in the game, kicking 3.6 to 2.1 to be 6 points up at half time. They would find their kicking boots in the third quarter however, scoring 7 goals to 3 to take a 31 point lead at 3/4 time. They ended up extending that slightly to run out 36 point winners. The Blues' midfielders were well held by the Bulldogs' taggers, although Greg Williams had 27 possessions. Michael Sexton was moved to centre half forward after being unable to contain Chris Grant and while he was able to kick 2 goals from 21 possessions, this move robbed the defence. The Blues would be further embarrassed by reject James Cook's 4 goals, making most of Carlton's forwards look ordinary.
