Game Review
In this match played on a Sunday afternoon at the Western Oval, a tenacious Footscray team (aided by a strong breeze at their backs) kept Carlton scoreless in the opening quarter. The Blues found their rhythm and used the wind to advantage in the second term, before overpowering the Dogs in the second half to run out clear winners by five goals.Stephen Silvagni, continued his excellent late-season form, and Simon Minton-Connell was outstanding at full-forward for the Blues, with his clever leading and strong hands providing many opportunities. "SMC's" bag of 8 goals was the most-ever by a Carlton player at the Western Oval, and an appropriate send-off for one of our club's all-time greats in Wayne Johnston. "The Dominator" wore his number 7 guernsey for the last time in this match, and retired at the end of the season.
All other games finished as expected. Essendon, Collingwood, West Coast, Melbourne and Hawthorn remained in the top five, with Carlton sixth, one win and 8 percentage points behind the Hawks.
