Game Review
The most explosive 10 minutes of football ever by the Blubaggers starting from the 20 minute of the 3rd quarter resulted in 7 goals (or was it more?)!! If only Jack Edwards showed as much excitement on the TV telecast as this effort warranted.Fighting for the title for the Inside Football Player of the Year was Carlton's Alex Marcou, whose sizzling pace around the ground and 27 kicks, 12 handballs and three marks were instrumental in the devastation of Hawthorn. Phil Maylin was also very effective with his hard running and aggresive attack on the football around the middle of the ground, which was topped of with two goals. - Inside Football Player of the Year.
There has been considerable public debate in recent seasons about which of the Carlton rovers is the best of the lot. it is a line-ball decision but my nod goes to Alex Marcou, who never stops boring in for the ball. Rod Ashman has more experience but Marcou has improved tremendously in each of the past couple of seasons. He helped lift Carlton to a premiership when he came off the imterchange in last year's Grand Final against Collingwood and has carried on the good form this season. He now is a devastating player, who does not know the meaning of fear. And to think that Carlton almost let him cross to the VFA before he had played one senior game! - Jim Main Inside Football.
Carlton began brilliantly against Hawthorn to lead by 27 points at quarter time. The Hawks narrowed the gap during the second quarter but the Blues eight goal burst in the last 12 minutes of the third term effectively ended the game. - Football Record.
