Game Review

Carlton continued their impressive mid-season form with this walloping of the Brisbane Bears. Although only 6 goals up at three quarter time, the Blues went on an 11 goal rampage in the last quarter to blow the Bears out of the water, and dramatically improve their percentage – 119.5 to 126.8 in a single game.

The Blues boasted an even forward line with 6 multiple goal-kickers and a dominant midfield with Fraser Brown covering the absent Greg Williams collected 21 kicks and 13 handballs. A young Anthony Koutoufides would play one of his better early games, with 24 stats and the 1-vote, while the even younger Matthew Allan would become the 1,000th Carlton Senior League* Player when he debuted in this game and kick a goal with his first kick in the AFL, with a thumping kick that landed in the Heatley Stand. Blues legend Stephen Silvagni would poll 2 votes from the last line of defence. Tommy Alvin continued his solid return to the Blues lineup with 3 trademark goals on the run that nearly brought the house down each time.

(*The League started in 1897.)
