Game Review

Sixth-placed Fitzroy met Carlton (seventh) in this vital match at Brunswick St. Heavy rain on the Friday prior made the surface slippery, and turned the game into an arm wrestle that eventually went to the Blues by one straight kick. Carlton should have won by a greater margin - we kicked 2 goals, 11 behinds in the third quarter, (the last seven in succession) and finished up having six more shots at goal than the Gorillas. A desperate last quarter saw Fitzroy throw everything at the Blues, but it was their turn to be inaccurate, scoring 2.9 to Carlton's 1.1.

Carlton sat sixth on the ladder after this win, once again just four points out of the top four.

Walsh replaced Jack Howell (who withdrew because of illness) at full forward in the side. Max Wenn went to centre half forward, and Bill Milroy into the ruck. Both were match-winning moves.
