Guernsey No. 46 (1967).
DOB:
Greg Kuchel played reserve grade football for Carlton in 1967.
He did not manage a Senior game for Carlton.
Kuchel was a qualified wool classer by trade, he was recruited from Rutherglen.
Details of Playing / Coaching Career: Norwood - S.A. 1967-1970. Naracoorte - S.A. 1971-1973. Casterton - Vic 1974. Ringwood - Vic 1975. North Wagga 1976-1981. Coached North Wagga 1979. Coached Farrer League 1979. Representened Farrer League and NSW several times.
Awards / Medals Received: Most improved Norwood 1968. Best and Fairest at North Wagga - not sure what year, so long ago can't remember.
Greg Kuchel was transferred in his employment with a stock and station agent to Wagga and he was immediately snapped up by the North Wagga Football Club. He was a big man and stood 6' 6" and weighed in at 16 stone. He had a big reputation and he certainly lived up to it. He was arguably the top ruckman to come to the Wagga area for many years and during his 6 years with the saints he gave them tremendous service. For a big man he was very mobile and that added another dimension to his game. He was a left footer and he was hard to stop when he would swing around onto his left and drive the footy forward. Greg was a gentle giant really and although his stature was very imposing he was a very fair and clean player. He had obvious leadership qualities and this was highlighted during his career. He had some very good players at his disposal at North Wagga and some that come readily to mind are Dennis Junker, Gene Miles, Geoff Ward, Robert Margosis and Don Elliott. They were defeated by MCU in the 1979 1st semi final who were coached by Greg Carroll. Greg Kuchel can be well proud of his football career and I know that North Wagga were very pleased to have him play the last 6 years of his career with them. Greg doesn't get to the footy much these days as he is kept busy on his property at Boorambola. It has been a pleasure to do Greg Kuchel as a Blast from the Past.
