Mitchell Carter was taken with the club's fourth selection, and pick 66 overall in the Rookie Draft. A speedy, agile midfielder, he was vice-captain of South Fremantle colts in 2009. His 2.95 seconds for 20m at the WA screening before the NAB AFL Draft was impressive.

Carter played two pre-season games in 2011, and followed that up with another two pre-season games in 2012, but at the end of his second season he was delisted by the Blues and he headed back west to WAFL team South Fremantle. Carter played with Sth Fremantle from 2013 to 2015 (he played in the 2015 Colts premiership). He then headed to Boulder City in the Goldfelds Football League in WA in 2016 in which he played in their premiership team that season.

In 2017 Carter relocated to Tasmania and signed up with TSL team Kingborough Tigers with former Blues team mate Marcus Davies, he played two seasons before deciding to head back to WA for the 2019 season. Carter won the B&F in both seasons he played with the Tigers and with Marcus Davies both topped the tally for the Tigers according to the media, finishing with six votes each for the RACT Insurance Player of the Year Award. He was also a State Representative player in 2017 for Tasmania.when they played against the NEAFL

As one of the recruits of the 2017 TSL season, Mitch Carter has emerged as one of the finest players at the Twin Ovals and will once again have a crucial role to play this season. Carter made an immediate impact on the TSL with his pinpoint kicking out of the back half and his stunning capacity to take intercept marks. The Tigers’ defensive group was under siege at times in 2017 and Carter was a Goliath in defence, repelling attacking play after attacking play under testing circumstances. Carter is as determined at the contest as he is classy with the football, making him the ideal defender and a valuable leader for an emerging side with hopes of cracking into finals football for the first time this season. Although a medium-sized defender, Carter has the ability to play on taller opponents, but with the addition of key defender Jake Doran from the Demons over the off-season, one can expect Carter to play more of an attacking game out of defence, making him an even more valuable commodity for Trent Baumeler’s side. The Tigers’ 2018 campaign will get underway with a Good Friday blockbuster against North Hobart at North Hobart Oval. - TSL Website
